Well, organic beanys keep me going
And I should know. I have eaten, usually at
lunchtime, at least one of our recipes a day on average since June 1990,
when Dawn and I bought Dragonfly. I was 50 then, having spent the previous
30 years in the hotel and catering industry, and sampled food from around
the world. So I know a bit, and can understand the attraction with delicious
tastes, the importance of ingredient quality and the need for good cooking.
But if I were to tell you that what ultimately counts is both emotional
and physical wellbeing, and that the older you get the harder this is
to achieve without a caring attitude to poverty 99p
lifesaver, and the benefit of a healthy diet, that nourishes and
keeps your system in good working order, you will understand what my
beany diet means to me.
It really is a question of
balance
Appreciate food with all its opportunities but ensure you get enough
of the basics, protein, carbohydrate, fat and fibre, and of course vitamins
and minerals etc, so your height weight ratio (body mass index equals weight
in kilos divided by height in metres squared) is right for your
age, with your digestion system storing what you need and getting rid
of what you don't, including all those waste products that can be so
dangerous, particularly as you move into the mature years. And I am
not forgetting the need to regulate what you drink with lots of water
and sufficient exercise to use your muscles and keep the old ticker
in good shape.
So don't just take my word
for it
Try the beanydiet for yourselves.
Since 1990 we have grown the business 20 times organically without marketing,
and so we have lots of regular customers who have discovered the beany
benefits, including some of our valued staff i.e. Fred our fryer who
will eat up to 5 a day! In 1997 we introduced the beany word to describe
our soya and rice veggie burger. We didn't like the word burger derived
from the hamburger a minced meat patty from Hamburg in Germany. We were
also concerned that the use of veggie, although important for our core
vegetarian customers, tended to put off non veggies from trying the
beany. "I don't eat vegetarian food" A comment I have heard
many times.
We also wanted to define a
very specific food
As accurately as possible we wanted to describe our soya bean, rice
and fresh local vegetable product with its organic and 'free from'
issues, and we have since created the beanys unique 'appleheart'
shape to help with the beany's differentiation from other burgers, grills
etc. We think our beany is special, made from a minimum waste production
process. Accepting that it must be a convenience food to be supplied
by us (you can make your
own), and that it needs to be supplied chilled as a ready cooked
product for colour and taste infusion reasons, and which avoids the
need for flour and egg binding agents, stabilisers, artificial colourings
and preservatives, and bulking out ingredients. Our beany is a mini
meal which uses the whole soya bean (tofu and ok fibre) brown rice,
fresh local vegetables and depending on the recipe tamari (gluten free
soya sauce), nuts, seeds herbs and spices, and a little sea salt, all
organic of course, certificated by the Soil Association in 1991.
